How to Apply for Admissions

Who should file an application?

New students:

  • Have never registered at Cañada, College of San Mateo, or Skyline College
  • Previously attended Cañada, College of San Mateo, and/or Skyline College as a concurrent high school student or Middle College student

New transfer Students:

  • Attended a college or university other than Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and/or Skyline College

Returning Students:

  • Have not registered in three consecutive semesters prior to the semester in which you are applying.
There are two ways to submit an application: (There is no fee to apply).
  1. Online through WebSMART - you must sign, print, and submit the signature page after submitting your online application. (Full-time International Students (F1 visa holder), MAY NOT apply on-line.)
  2. Paper application that can be downloaded using Adobe Acrobat ®Reader, available free.

You may mail, fax, or bring your completed application to the Admissions and Records Office. See Admissions and Records Office for location and hours.

International Students: a citizen of another country who is on student (F-1) visa and wishes to attend Cañada College full-time: Part-Time International Students: International Students on F1 visa, who are attending full-time at another institution, may attend Cañada College part-time.
  • Can use on-line or paper application (not the international student application form)
  • Submit a copy of your current I-20 form
  • Submit a permission/authorization letter from your advisor / counselor
  • All documents must be submitted to the Admissions and Records Office

High School Students (Concurrent Program): students seeking admissions to Cañada College while attending high school

Middle College High School Students: is a joint partnership between the Sequoia Union High School District and Cañada College .

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 pm
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
During summer the office will close at 12:00 noon on Fridays.

Matriculation

Matriculation is a state mandated process that describes a partnership that you, the student, and Cañada College agree to form for the purpose of realizing your individual educational goals. This partnership acknowledges responsibilities of both the College and YOU, the student, to reach those goals through established programs, policies and requirements currently in place.

Matriculation Steps

A Registration ticket will guide you through these steps. You must obtain a signature at each step to verify completion.
  1. Apply for Admission
  2. Placement Testing
  3. Orientation
  4. Counseling and Advising
  5. Register for Classes

Return your completed Registration Ticket to the Admissions and Records Office to receive an appointment to register for your classes.

Who is required to complete matriculation steps?

Students who have declared one of the following education goals on their college application:

  • a vocational certificate
  • an Associate degree
  • transfer to a 4-year university
  • Undecided about your specific goals and considering one of the above options

Register for Classes

  • If you are a continuing student or a new/returning student and have received your registration appointment date, you may register online using WebSMART.
  • Download and print a WebSMART registration worksheet using Adobe Acrobat ®Reader, available free. This form is a check list to ensure you have met all the requirements before registering in your classes. It includes a chart to help you with planning your schedule.
  • The WebSMART registration instruction sheet will guide you through registration.

WebSMART is available daily except 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Late registration

If you miss the registration deadline, you may follow the steps below for Late Registration:

  • Attend the first class meeting
  • The instructor will give you an authorization code, if space is available.
  • Use the Authorization Code to register on WEBSMART.
  • Complete late registration on or before February 4 for Spring '08 Semester.
  • Students may register for late start courses up to a day before the class begins without an authorization code, if space is available.

Transcripts

Request an official transcript in one of two ways:

  1. Online - login to WebSMART >> Student Services & Financial Aid
  2. Download a Request for an Official Transcript. Print out and send to the Admissions and Records office for processing. You may send your request via mail or FAX (650) 306-3113.
