LING 200 INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS: A SURVEY OF LANGUAGE (Also ENGL 200)

Units (Letter grade) 3; Class Hours: Minimum of 48 lecture hours/semester; Recommended: Eligibility for READ 836, and ENGL 836 or ESL 400; Prerequisite(s): None. Description: The origin and development of spoken and written languages, language acquisition, and the evolution of language are studied in this course. The basics of linguistics including systems of phonetics and phonology, semantics, morphology and syntax are also studied. There is also a strong focus on the grammar and sentence structure of standard written English. Transfer: CSU.
