Strategic Planning—Mission, Vision, Values ReviewI am always impressed with the importance of clear, forthright vision and accompanying mission statements. When preparing to make decisions which involve difficult choices one inevitably returns to the Vision and Mission statements for immediate and meaningful reference points and guidance. They keep us accountable regarding fundamental questions. "Is this action a logical, if not compelling thing to do, because it is naturally embedded in the role and purpose of the College", and "Is the expected outcome of the decision an important part of what we described the College would become some years into the future." In this document Rick Voorhees provides a means of reviewing the statements presently possessed by the College and simultaneously gives examples from other community colleges around the county. It takes time to read it all but it's very worthwhile in terms of building consensus eventually on the statements pertinent to the needs of our community and specific enough to keep college actions on target.
