Cañada Engineering Student Chosen for Stanford Research Project

Jeremy Morales-Madrigal, a chemical engineering student at Cañada College, is the only community college student selected for the project.

Jeremy Morales-Madrigal, a chemical engineering student at Cañada College, is the only community college student selected this year to participate in Stanford University’s prestigious Center on Polymer Interfaces and Macromolecular Assemblies Summer Undergraduate Research Experience. He will receive a $4,500 stipend and will be completing a research project that he will also use for the Cañada College Honors Program.

“We’re going to be studying energy release in different reactions,” he said. “I’ll be studying at Stanford and at the IBM Research Center in San Jose. The program begins June 8 and I’ll present my findings the first week of August.”

Jeremy said the chance to work with Stanford University faculty and graduate students in the area of materials science, engineering, and polymer science is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “The engineering program at Cañada College has prepared me for this,” he said. “In my opinion, Cañada has one of the top community college engineering programs in the state.”

In addition to his experience at Stanford, Jeremy is the only community college student to be accepted to the ExxonMobil Latinos on Fast Track program. He will receive $1,000 plus mentoring from an ExxonMobil engineer and the opportunity to interview for a summer internship in 2010.

“The program allows me to explore career opportunities within the company and I will be paired up with an ExxonMobil engineer or scientist,” he said.

Jeremy is the co-president of the Cañada College Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers student chapter and the recipient of a $4,000 scholarship from the National Science Foundation.
