After you have completed the Placement Tests and the Online College Orientation you are ready to meet with a college counselor. Counseling services are typically very impacted the two weeks prior to the beginning of the Fall semester (August 4 through August 19), and for Spring semester (January 2-January 21). Please try to complete the matriculation/registration process prior to the first day of class if possible. If you come in to use services during this peak time be prepared to wait for drop-in services.

Educational Counseling Services
Counselors are available to assist students with their educational, career, and personal goals. Educational Counseling Services are designed to:
- Help students make decisions and set educational and career goals
- Provide academic program planning to complete certificate, associate degree, and/or university transfer programs
- Help students evaluate current academic readiness and plan coursework to build skills
- Assist students to use campus services and resources
- Evaluate transcripts from other American colleges and universities for credit applied to certificates and degrees at Cañada College
- Teach students important skills, strategies, and techniques to enhance classroom and academic success
- Work with students to resolve personal concerns that may interfere with the ability to succeed
Note:
It is highly recommended that at least once a semester, schedule an appointment to meet with a Counselor to discuss progress toward your academic goals, develop or update your STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PLAN (SEP), and learn about important student services that enhance student success. Student Educational Plans must be completed within the first 15 units completed.
Counseling services are available via:
- Individual counseling
- Electronic counseling (available to current students)
- Group counseling "C-Reg" (for new students)
- Drop-in (Please be prepared to wait since students are served on a first-come first-served basis

Students may make an appointment:
- In person at the Counseling Center (Bldg 1 first floor at the information desk)or
- By calling (650) 306-3452 or
- On-line: Log into WebSMART, click on Student Tab, then Student Services Appointment, then Cañada College Counseling appointment
No Show Policy:
Students who do not show or are 10 minutes late to the counseling appointment will be marked as "NO SHOW" on the their record. After two missed appointments (NO SHOWS) students will then be limited to using drop-in services as they are made available for the remainder of the school year. If the student is unable to keep the appointment, it is his/her responsibility to cancel the appointment.

If you would like to meet with a counselor you may add your name to waiting list on the same day and have a seat at the counseling center, first floor, to be called by a counselor. Please note that drop-in appointments are on a first come first serve basis.

Counseling Registration Sessions For New Students
“C-Reg”
*To attend a C-Reg session, please make an appointment by calling 650-306-3452. In addition, all students must have a student identification number (G number,) have taken the placement test, and completed the on-line orientation. Finally, please bring your Registration Ticket with “step 2 Placement Testing” signed and dated by testing staff as well as the online orientation certificate of completion to the C-Reg session.

Career Services
The primary goal of Career Services is to assist students to develop and carry out both short- and long-term employment and career goals. Services provided include:
- Advising;
- A resource library of career exploration and job hunting books detailing preparatory education and training and labor market trends for career areas;
- EUREKA, a computer based California career information system
- Access to career related websites, and use of the computerized MonsterTRAK services, a college targeted internet job site.
Student Employment Opportunities
Employers may submit job postings to the Career Center to the following email haickr@smccd.edu or by fax 650-306-3457. All job announcements are posted on the Student Employment bulletin board in the Student Center. Announcements are posted a total of 4 weeks.

Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university may use Transfer Services to research universities, majors, academic requirements, college costs, and other transfer issues. Resources include college catalogs, college directories, articulation information, and access to PROJECT ASSIST, a self-guided site that provides general education, major and course equivalency information. You may contact the Transfer Services Program Supervisor at (650) 306-3493 for additional information and service.

Transfer In Students
Students who complete lower division courses at another accredited college and/or university may receive unit credit toward a certificate and/or Associate degree. An official copy of the transcript from all colleges/universities attended must be submitted to the Admissions Office to be evaluated. Upper division courses cannont apply toward a certificate and/or an Associate degree.
Transcripts
A request for an official transcript may be downloaded and sent to the Enrollment Services Office for processing.
