9. College Visits
Every semester EOPS organizes trips to at least one University of California campus, one California State University campus and one independent/private college campus.
10. Instruction: Basic Skills
The following courses are offered at Cañada College for EOPS eligible students:
Applied Study Skills: Study techniques/strategies to meet the demands of college level courses across the curriculum. Series of short-term courses covering various disciplines.
Mathematics Skills: Basic math instruction offered in 1-unit modules covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and word problems.
Communications Skills: Reading, writing, listening, speaking (techniques of expression) as they relate to successful participation in college.
Science Skills: Preparation for all science; scientific method, terminology, and survey course content.
11. Student Mutual Responsibility Contact
EOPS is designed to provide academic and support services to students who are financially and educationally disadvantaged. Your acceptance into EOPS means that you are willing to work cooperatively with the program to attain your educational and career goals. You remain eligible for EOPS for six (6) consecutive semesters or until you complete 70 degree-applicable units, whichever comes first, as long as you comply with the following requirements:

Orientation: New EOPS students are required to attend an EOPS student orientation the first semester in the program, prior to receipt of program services and a continuing student orientation the second semester.

Unit Requirement: You are required to enroll in 12 or more units and consult with your EOPS counselor before you add/drop units.

Academic Progress: You are required to make academic progress toward your educational goal by: completing a minimum of 12 units each semester with a minimum grade point average of 2.00; and graduate from Cañada College; transfer to a four year college/university, or be awarded a certificate after completing 70 degree applicable units as defined by Title V; and utilize the student support services recommended by your EOPS counselor.

Academic Counseling: You are required to meet with your EOPS counselor to develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP) during your first month in EOPS. In addition, you are required to meet with your EOPS counselor three (3) times each semester. You must also inform your EOPS counselor if you have another academic advisor or counselor on the Cañada College campus.
Absences: You are required to regularly attend each course in which you enroll. If you have an emergency that will keep you out of class for an extended period, contact your instructor(s). If your absence will be longer than your instructor permits, call your EOPS counselor, or the College Nurse for advice. Make an appointment with your EOPS counselor if you plan to take a Leave of Absence. You are required to re-establish your EOPS eligibility by completing a new EOPS application, and Board of Governors Enrollment Fee Waiver Application (BOG).
12. Academic Support
Cañada College’s Learning Resouce Center offers tutoring and/or Supplemental Instruction in a wide range of academic and vocational subjects. The phone number is (650) 306-3340 and it is located in Building 5-105
13. Financial Aid: Student Financial Services
The primary focus of this office is to provide financial assistance to students who could benefit from a college education but might not be able to pursue it without aid.
EOPS works closely with Student Financial Services by helping students complete applications and other required documentation; by advising students about financial ad academic progress policies and procedures; by making recommendations to Student Financial Services about students’ financial aid probation, dismissal, appeal and reinstatement, and/or excessive units needs. Cañada College financial aid office refers students who receive a BOG A or B to EOPS. Student Financial Services is located in the Building 8-211 and may be reached at (650) 306-3307.
14. College Readiness/TRIO
College Readiness is a federally funded TRIO program (supplemented by EOPS funds) to help low-income and first generation college students develop and strengthen basic skills through personal instruction in math, science, writing and communication skills.
This program also provides academic, vocational, personal, and transfer counseling, while easing the transition of mostly re-entry students into courses on the main campus during their second semester at the college.
Many College Readiness participants are also EOPS eligible and receive the same benefits of other EOPS students on campus. College Readiness can be reached at (831) 646-4246.
15. Supportive Services
The state funded Disabled Student Services Program that provides instruction and counseling support for students identified as having physical, psychological, and/or learning disabilities. Course curriculum, advisement, equipment and facilities are designed to accommodate the wide range of special needs within their student population. Low-income students are referred to EOPS for additional benefits, and EOPS participants may be referred to Supportive Services for assessment and/or special education courses or accommodations, if need is indicated.
